This book was written by Dr. Salih S. Alansari, an assistant professor of family and community medicine, and international advisor in the field of health promotion and school health. Dr. Salih has a wide experience in health promotion programs, particularly the field of physical activities. Dr. Salih is considered a referee in the field of physical activity in Saudi Arabia and Gulf states and a role model as active health professional who practices regular physical activities for 25 years.

This book was written in Arabic to help health professionals and public with essential knowledge on physical activities in general and walking in particular. The book consists of seven chapters. Each one of the chapter focuses on one aspect of “Walking” as the most important type of physical activity. The first chapter gives an idea about the history of walking, the religious dimension of walking, walking and new technologies, sedentary lifestyles and its negative impact on occurrence of chronic diseases globally, physical activities and health economy, and the physical activities in Saudi community. The second chapter discusses choosing of different types of physical activities, benefits, and the importance of walking for our health. The third chapter demonstrates the positive impact of “walking” on different organs of the body including the physiological changes that occur as a result of practicing regular walking. In chapter four, the author has outlined the benefit and positive effect of “walking” on general health and longevity, happiness, and prevention of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, and improving mental health. In chapter five, the author has provided readers with simple and practical prescription regarding “walking” and how to make it as personal daily habit. This chapter discussed the type of walking, how to prepare yourself for walking?, choosing the appropriate time and the suitable footwear for walking, and precautions for high-risk individuals before practicing walking. The sixth chapter discussed important concept of “Walking” and how to make it implant it in the “Saudi Culture” and how disseminate this culture to people. The last chapter outlines the personal experience of many famous and community leaders from Saudi Arabia regarding the practice of “Walking” as their favorite physical activity since longtime till nowadays.

In general, the book was written in very simple language, provided with relevant statistics and figures, illustrations and results of scientific studies which made its reading as an enjoyable journey which lasts about 2 h.
