By December 2016, the board of Saudi Arabian Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (SASMBS) will complete its second cycle and 6 years of continuous work to achieve the goals of SASMBS. Despite challenges that we faced during the past years, many achievements were accomplished. One of the most wins that we achieved was accepting the Honorary Presidency of SASMBS by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud Governor of Aseer region. The second win was issuing Saudi Journal of Obesity as the official publication of SASMBS. In the past few years, the board of SASMBS conducted two international conferences in Dubai, UAE (2013), and Abha, KSA (2016). During these two conferences, many international guest speakers presented their valuable talks to prevent and manage obesity. One of the most important outcomes of the last conference was “Abha Document to Control Overweight in Saudi Arabia” which was prepared by national experts from different health sectors in Saudi Arabia to minimize the high incidence and prevalence of obesity and its metabolic consequences in Saudi community. The other important achievement was issuing two clinical guidelines to help health professionals in KSA to manage obesity based on the best evidence. At the end of this cycle, I present my great and warm thanks for the Honorary President of SASMBS His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud Governor of Aseer region for his continuous support and advice, many thanks extended to all members of SASMBS for their cooperation and efforts to enable SASMBS to achieve their roles in serving and assisting Saudi community to be free of obesity. Finally, I hope that the coming board will do their best to accomplish the vision, mission, and objectives of SASMBS.
