The author of this book is an associate professor of surgery at King Saud University, Riyadh and chairman of the endoscopy unit at King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh.

This book was written in very simple, clear Arabic language aiming to provide public with important information regarding obesity. It consisted of 21 chapters that discussing many related issues. The first six chapters gave sufficient information about the epidemic of obesity in Saudi Arabia, etiology, harm-full effect, and metabolism/physiology relevant to obesity. In the next five chapters, the author discussed the dietary management of obesity, roles of physical activities, behavioural therapy and drug use. The next seven chapters dealt with surgical management of obesity, including indications, preoperative preparation, different bariatric surgeries and their expected complications. One chapter was about the obesity among children and adolescents. The next chapter gave a brief account about the body contouring after massive weight loss. The last chapter discussed the insurance coverage for bariatric surgery. The book was provided with many illustrations including pictures, graphs and tables which expected to enable the readers from understanding important concepts concerning obesity. This book is considered an excellent educational reference for health professionals including health educators, family physicians which could help them to manage obese patients in community health settings. Furthermore, this book could be a useful guideline for obese patients who plan to practice healthy life styles and to reduce weight.
