Under the patronage of his royal highness Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud, Governor of Aseer region and the Honorary President, Saudi Arabian Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (SASMBS) held the Second International Conference under the theme “Diabesity: A Threatening Epidemic in Saudi Arabia” in Abha, the capital city of Aseer region, Saudi Arabia, during the period of 7th–9th October, 2016. More than 40 international and national speakers presented their research results and shared their experience in the field of “Obesity and Diabetes.” Four workshops were conducted, and one of them was run by four members of Shura Council and focused on “The legal aspects” of control of diabetes/obesity in Saudi Arabia and the roles of Shura Council as a legal body contributing great efforts in this regard. Many recommendations were approved by the scientific committee of the conference and announced as “Abha Statement for Control Obesity in Saudi Arabia.” In this issue of “Saudi Journal of Obesity,” we present some sections from this document and abstracts/posters presented in the conference. We hope that such recommendations will be implemented by the concerned authorities as soon as possible.
